3-D Video Shows COVID-19 Attack Patient's Lungs

CT imaging from George Washington University Hospital shows the effects of COVID-19 on the lungs of a 59-year old man.

Just days before, the patient showed no symptoms of the virus.  The yellow areas show the rapid spread of the infection and inflammation in both lungs.  Inflammation occurs as the body tries to control the infection, causing the patient to gasp for air.

COVID 19George Washington University Hospital released the video to show the dangers of COVID-19.

"I want people to see this and understand what this [virus] can do."
Dr. Keith Mortman
Chief of Thoracic Surgery
George Washington University Hospital

The patient in the video is on a ventilator and remains in critical condition in the ICU.

CT imaging technology like this is usually used for cancer screening or planning surgeries.  For the first time, it's being used to help fight the unprecedented virus.
